This award is to honor Barbara McCarthy and her dedication, commitment, and leadership within the field of education for persons with visual impairment in Virginia.  The intent of this award is to provide financial assistance to students with exemplary academic achievements and who demonstrate a high level of interest in supporting the needs persons with visual impairment.

VIRGINIA AER scholarships are limited to undergraduate or graduate students who have been admitted as full time or part time students at an accredited college or university.  The institution of higher education is to be one that prepares individuals to work with people who are visually impaired.  The scholarships may be granted prior to enrollment, but payment will require verification of enrollment.

2020 scholarship application is now available.  The application submission deadline is January 17, 2020.

In support of Virginia AER’s mission to empower, encourage, and educate professionals who work in all phases of education and rehabilitation of blind and visually impaired children and adults, the chapter empowers members by offering ongoing opportunities to encourage creativity through grants and education through stipends

Virginia AER offers $400 grants and stipends to members
