Qualifications
Education, Certifications, & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field is required;
- Certification as a Teacher of Blind/Low Vision is preferred;
- Years of experience in early childhood education or as a TBLV will be taken under consideration;
- Experience in supervisory positions is preferred.
Job skills & Requirements:
- Strong organizational skills;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Self-motivated and flexible;
- Experience in conflict resolution;
- Ability to multitask;

VIPS Mission:
Visually Impaired Preschool Services (VIPS) empowers families by providing educational excellence to young children with visual impairments in order to build a strong foundation for reaching their highest potential.
Job Summary:
Visually Impaired Preschool Services (VIPS) is looking for a strong leader showcasing a passion to work with young children with visual impairments and their families. Serious candidates must be willing to serve as an integral part of an educational team that empowers families by providing early intervention and educational services to children with visual impairments. The Assistant Director will be responsible for assisting the Director of Education with the overall management and daily operation of VIPS services provided throughout the state of Indiana. This position is 40 hours per week; full-time with benefits.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Director of Education in
- planning and coordinating educational programs;
- training and supervising early intervention providers (certified and paraprofessional);
- recruiting new Blind/Low Vision First Steps providers to serve children across Indiana;
- nurturing relationships with universities through attendance at job fairs and recruiting events;
- Serve as liaison between the Director of Education and education team members serving children and families in Indiana;
- Collaborate with the VIPS Intake Team (Intake Coordinator and Family Services Coordinator);
- Keep current on requirements for all funding sources including First Steps, school contracts (when applicable), and all other educational funding sources;
- Provide supervision, leadership and support to teachers and First Steps providers through reviews and annual evaluations;
- Ensure VIPS licensing and First Steps providers’ credentials and training records remain current;
- Arrange trainings and conference presentations by VIPS team members for a variety of partner agencies/organizations throughout Indiana;
- Maintain a First Steps caseload of five children;
- Represent VIPS on statewide and community committees and boards;
- Oversee HIPAA-compliant storage and destruction of student records;
- Attend monthly VIPS Education team meetings and bi-weekly meetings of the VIPS Administration Team;
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director and Director of Education.
