Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Vision Rehabilitation Therapy, Orientation and Mobility and/or a closely related field.
  • Certified Vision Rehabilitation Therapist, and/or Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist, Certified Assistive Technology Instructional Specialist for Individuals with Visual Impairments  and/or able to chart a reasonable path to achieve certification within 1 years of hire through the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation & Education Professionals (ACVREP).
  • Pass a rigourous background, drug screening and credit check.
  • Valid driver’s license or identified transportation source as this position requires routine travel to clients’ homes, possibly worksites and other community locations.

Certified Vision Rehabilitation Therapist (CVRT) and/or

Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) and/or

Certified Assistive Technology Instructional Specialist for Individuals with Visual Impairments (CATIS) – preferred but experience with AT will be considered

We are hiring a Certified Vision Rehabilitation Therapist and/or an Assistive Technology Specialist. We are seeking someone who is dual certified as a CVRT, CATIS, COMS or any combination thereof. The ideal hire would have a dual certification.

Purpose:

The primary responsibility for this position will depend upon the applicant’s specialty area but we are seeking someone who is a Certified Vision Rehabilitation Therapist (CVRT) or Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) and while a Certified Assistive Technology Instructional Specialist for Individuals with Visual Impairments (CATIS) is preferred – it is not necessary for this position.

Responsibilities may include (depending upon specialty area):

  • Assess client’s needs/goals in home and community environments.
  • Collaborate with the client to establish service goals and expectations.
  • Provide individualized vision rehabilitation services that address visual, physical, cognitive and psychosocial abilities related to adaptive independent living skills.
  • Teach independent living skills in areas of personal management, household management, communication, leisure activities, orientation and movement in an indoor environment, and use of low vision and adaptive devices and technology.
  • Teaches safe efficient travel skills in all settings.
  • Coordinate and develop programming for blind and visually impaired clients.
  • Maintains knowledge and delivers skills on the use of technology for orientation.
  • Provides information and advocacy to city leaders on a safe, built environment and public transit.
  • Collects, organizes, and analyzes information about individuals through records, tests, interviews, and professional sources, to appraise their interests, aptitudes, abilities, and personality characteristics, for orientation and mobility planning.
  • Superior time management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Write and organize case notes for clients and enter data collection in database.
