Job Description

The Rehabilitation Services department is seeking a compassionate, high-energy full-time Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) to work in our center-based training program with consumers ranging in age from 14 to 90 years. The Carroll Center’s comprehensive instruction integrates non-visual methods with low vision aids/techniques. This individual will conduct client assessments and provide indoor/outdoor instruction, including the use of public transportation. The COMS will work within a team-based approach and will be interacting with other members of the Rehabilitation Staff. In addition, the COMS will be required to produce written assessments, document client’s progress, and present at meetings with consumers, family, and referring agency representatives.

Each year, The Carroll Center for the Blind helps more than 4,000 blind or visually impaired children, adults, and senior citizens gain the skills they need to live active and fulfilling lives. The Carroll Center serves all ages and stages of vision loss by providing campus-based rehabilitation, technology instruction, community orientation and mobility as well as itinerant education and mobility services to children.
