Qualifications

Required: Master’s degree in education or special education plus at least three years of teaching experience in special education required. Candidates must meet State of Iowa requirements for administrator licensure and teacher licensure by time of appointment. The successful candidate will be expected to hold or seek evaluator endorsement upon appointment. Frequent travel within Iowa, including some overnights, will be necessary.

Preferred: Teaching endorsement in visual impairment preferred. Leadership and supervisory experience in special education also preferred.

Job Description

Full time, 12 month appointment. Primary service region includes Western Iowa: Prairie Lakes AEA, Northwest AEA, and Green Hills AEA. Office located in Council Bluffs, IA (southwest Iowa = near Omaha, NE). Expected start date by late June2023. Criminal and other relevant background checks required. Provides leadership for program development, professional development, and staff support in the field of vision services. Supervises and evaluates Teachers of the Visually Impaired, Licensed Orientation and Mobility Specialists and other educational staff. Works collaboratively with the Superintendent, other Regional Directors, and numerous teams of professionals to ensure the successful delivery of vision services to students who are blind and visually impaired in Iowa. Develops and fosters partnerships with related organizations including Area Education Agencies (AEAs), Local Education Agencies (LEAs); the Iowa Department for the Blind; the Iowa Department of Education; parents; and professional and para-professional staff.
