Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred
  • Five years teaching in the field of Visual Impairments/Deaf Blind required
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certificate in the field of Visual impairment or certified in the area of Orientation & Mobility
  • Specialized knowledge in inclusion and specially designed instruction preferred.
  • Recommended by the Executive Director

Job Description

  • Provide supports for Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE)
  • Specify a continuum of no-tech, low-tech, and high-tech solutions and strategies and make recommendations for acquisition and implementation for Assistive Technology support
  • Provide High Quality Technical Assistance and Professional Development in the areas of complex, intensive educational and functional needs of students with Visual Impairment, Deaf/Hard of Hearing, and Deaf/Blind
  • Provide High Quality Technical Assistance and Professional Development in the areas of IEP Development, IEP Supplements, IEP Implementation, progress monitoring, Least Restrictive Environment, Specially Designed Instruction, Universal Design for Learning, and modifications and accommodations
  • Develop quality training to ensure that students with disabilities demonstrate progress in the grade-level Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and access grade-level standards through pre-requisite skills
  • Develop High Quality Technical Assistance and Professional Development to LEAs to ensure that students with Visual Impairments, Deaf/Hard of Hearing and Deaf/Blind make progress in the grade-level Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) by using specially designed instructional strategies including the use of differentiation during instruction and assessment.
  • Create, track and maintain metrics for network activities
  • Evaluate the impact of training, products and services on the performance of students receiving services for Visual and/or Auditory Impairments
  • Participate in designated local and state (e.g. networks) professional development activities, share information with ESC staff and appropriate regional personnel
  • Act as the first point of contact for LEAs, parents, agencies and other stakeholders in the areas of Visual Impairments
